At the root of my practice, I’m a storyteller. Through my narrative practice, I view the act of creation as a cathartic measure, one fraught with trial and rumination. My artworks are a combination of my negotiations with life, morality, anxiety, depression, and a fascination with the emotive power of the human figure in its surrounding environment. As a father, a husband, and an educator, I use artwork as a means of communicating with the world through the narratives and physical presence of my loved ones. My compositions contain crumbs of the everyday, of familial interactions, solitary walks in nature, and finding peace within circumstance. My works utilize familiar motifs present within romantic painting and literature to create a dialogue with viewers that feels familiar and safe, but all the more unsettling and uncanny. I seek to show similarly the beautiful and the tragic, while the precise and meditative nature of my practice allows me to tease out the narratives present within a given situation or form before engaging with the viewer and telling the story anew.

I am a contemporary painter who creates art that draws inspiration from modernism, surrealism, abstraction, and pop art. My current body of work incorporates people and environments which I encounter in my daily life infused with symbolic imagery drawn from dreams, spirituality, and societal observation. I have recently taken a more experimental approach in my material use, and have started incorporating spray paint, acrylic paint, oil paint, and resin into my works. By depicting scenes and symbols emblematic of the city’s fast-paced lifestyle and diversity, I aim to create a connection between the psychological and physical world, the personal and societal, and the abstract and representational.

Photography has been my passion since early childhood. My motivation is to discover and capture the beauty, even when it is not always readily self-evident, that surrounds us continuously in all areas of our everyday lives. I believe the finest images are those that are serious yet playful, aesthetically appealing yet a bit quirky. As both an artist and an admirer, my favorite photographs tend to be ones whose contents speak loudly for themselves — even when it is not immediately clear exactly what they are saying. They seek to inspire their viewers to wrestle with their intriguing contents and, as a result, ponder various aspects of our surrounding world in new and unique ways.
